Deltona, FL - Central Florida Regional Hospital, an affiliate of HCA, announced today its plans to expand access to emergency care in Volusia County with the opening of a freestanding emergency department in Deltona. The new ER is expected to open in the 4th quarter of 2016.

Two HCA hospitals in Central Florida are already successfully operating freestanding emergency departments. The first in the area was opened by Central Florida Regional Hospital in November 2013.

The new Deltona emergency department will be designed much like the freestanding ERs in Oviedo and Hunters Creek, featuring 12 private patient rooms and onsite emergency diagnostic imaging and lab services. The Deltona emergency facility will be staffed 24/7 with emergency physicians, nurses certified in Advanced Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support and imaging, cardiopulmonary and laboratory technicians, bringing the expertise to care for even the most critical emergencies to Deltona. In addition, as a department of Central Florida Regional Hospital, Deltona's new freestanding emergency department will utilize the same quality and patient safety processes for which Central Florida Regional Hospital has been recognized by The Leapfrog Group, The Joint Commission and other experts in the healthcare industry.

"For many years we have been caring for patients from West Volusia County in our emergency department who came 'across the bridge' seeking safe, comprehensive, high-quality care," said Wendy Brandon, Chief Executive Officer, Central Florida Regional Hospital. "We look forward to taking this important step to expand access to 24/7 acute emergency care for our neighbors in Deltona."
